5 Quotes by David Attenborough That Will Make You Love The Natural World

He has been called the greatest broadcaster of our time and for over half a century David Attenborough has been bringing the natural world into our living rooms with TV programmes like “Life on Earth”, “The Trials of Life”, and “The Blue Planet” – fascinating insights into the flora and fauna on Earth through incredible cinematography and storytelling.

I have always loved watching these documentaries and David Attenborough is someone I could listen to forever. His soothing tones mesmerise as he invites us into the lives of the amazing animals and plants that we share this planet with. Ever gently but with a serious undertone, he also warns us of the impact of human society on the natural world.

This man is loved by all and over the years has received many awards and much recognition for his work – as well as having 15 species of plants and animals named after him. He is a true inspiration and his passion for the natural world seeps into our hearts every time we watch him doing what he loves.

  1. I also love this man and everything he stands for. All his quotes are wise and reflect my thoughts. He says it better then me though. From your list, the first and the last quote really speak to me. Such a great read, Gill. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I also love him! Such a wonderful man, and like you said, I could also listen to his mesmerizing voice for hours! 😉
From your list I think I like the fourth quote the best, as it perfectly reflects what I´m feeling too.
But here´s another one of his, that has made a very big impression on me:

“I don’t know [why we’re here]. People sometimes say to me, ‘Why don’t you admit that the humming bird, the butterfly, the Bird of Paradise are proof of the wonderful things produced by Creation?’ And I always say, well, when you say that, you’ve also got to think of a little boy sitting on a river bank, like here, in West Africa, that’s got a little worm, a living organism, in his eye and boring through the eyeball and is slowly turning him blind. The Creator God that you believe in, presumably, also made that little worm. Now I personally find that difficult to accommodate…”

    it´s a bit controversial of course…

    1. I love him too, he is one of my heroes in life. Yes I like that one and I also like number 1. Really I like them all LOL.. I saw the one you mention when I was choosing which ones to use. It’s true – the good old Creation argument. He’s right in what he says! xxx

  3. Grew up with and have always loved David Attenborough – what an amazing naturalist! He’s always been an advocate for the Great Barrier Reef, but sadly his tireless efforts have fallen on our politicians’ deaf ears.

One of his quotes I remember: “If we [humans] disappeared overnight, the world would probably be better off.”

This is a very different post for you. How’s the course going? 🙂

    1. Me too Nilla! I love him and what he does! Yes, when I was choosing the quotes I saw that one and it’s true. It’s a shame that no one is listening- we will come to regret that in the end, am sure! The course is good and I want to write about different things while still keeping in my niche of travel-related stuff which I think this article is – I know where I am coming from with it (hope everyone else does LOL 😉 It took me ages to decide on whose quotes I was going to use and I had David Attenborough written down before I started looking at other people. I went back to him and then took another couple of hours to choose the quotes. I have pages of headlines that I need to get on and write, so I can post more regularly and start pitching magazines and websites; it’s time to get more serious about it! I am such a procrastinator and unfocused sometimes, got too many things in my head 😉
