A Quiet Weekend in Lowestoft

In August 2023, my friend and I went to Lowestoft for the weekend. We checked into our apartment and took a walk along the seafront.

Considering it was summertime there weren’t many people there. I think Great Yarmouth just up the road is the more popular destination.

Still, Lowestoft served our purposes – there was still things to see and places open for food and drinks. We found a lovely little place just outside the town which had a nice garden terrace.

The following day we drove to Banham Zoo. Every ticket that is purchased goes towards supporting the zoo’s conservation efforts, and it’s always nice to see the animals and birds up close.

We went to watch a live show with birds of prey and parrots.

As soon as we took our seats, the heavens opened and we got drenched. So we ran to the nearest shelter to wait until the rained stopped before continuing our exploration of the park.

Back in Lowestoft we walked to Ness Point which is the most easterly point in Britain.

We ended the evening in a cute restaurant for delicious clams and a mountain of food which we polished off.

We had a last walk along the seafront, surprisingly still bereft of people.

On the way home, we went to Framlington Castle. I love exploring places like this.

We climbed up the stairs and walked around the walls for great views over the surrounding parkland.

Inside the castle ground people were chilling on the grass watching the re-enactments and other entertainers.

I find these places fascinating, I mean the stories that could be told in these historic grounds.

We left the castle and walked the short distance to the cute town of Framlington.

We stopped for a bite to eat before visiting the church and wandering along the narrow streets flanked by different coloured houses.

We had a wonderful weekend exploring, taking photos, and learning a bit of history.

Small, but meaningful experiences which I am truly grateful for.
